Cafundó Estúdio Criativo, in partnership with director and creator Thiago Calçado, presents "Sol em Dó Ré Mi", a series that combines 2D animation and stop motion.
The story follows the imagination of young pianist Sol, who embarks on grand adventures in the enchanted world of Dó Ré Mi, where musical instruments come to life to show that daily tasks can be incredibly fun.
In partnership with the studio, the series was created and directed by Thiago Calçado, a director and animator specializing in 2D and stop-motion. He has worked on feature films such as Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs, Kubo and the Two Strings (nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2017 Oscars), and Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022). He also directed the 2D series Ana Bolinha (2021) for Cafundó Estúdio Criativo.
The visual narrative of "Sol em Dó Ré Mi" explores two animation styles to distinguish reality from imagination. Sol's attic, which represents her everyday life, is entirely animated in stop motion, enhancing the sense of a real-world environment.
Meanwhile, the world of Dó Ré Mi is brought to life through 2D animation, allowing for a more playful and abstract approach. This aesthetic combination resonates perfectly with young audiences, blending reality and fantasy in a captivating way. The inanimate instruments in the attic come to life as charming characters, full of expression, visual and sound gags, making the experience even more magical and engaging.
Sol is a lively and curious 6-year-old. Like any other child, she doesn’t enjoy going to the dentist or sleeping early. Her true refuge is the attic, where a magical piano hides a portal to the enchanted world of Dó Ré Mi. Only Sol knows the secret melody that activates the portal. Upon crossing it, she discovers that she must face the same challenges as in the real world. However, with the help of her musical instrument friends, she overcomes each obstacle in a playful and fun way. And in the end, there's nothing better than a musical performance to celebrate her achievements!
The series features 15 episodes, each 10 minutes long, designed for the whole family.
